Growing up I always had my head in a book – my mum would often discover me reading under the covers late into the night, losing myself in another world and soaking up new stories, worlds and ideas. Nowadays, you’re more likely to find me with my head in a laptop working on new content or ideas for the B.LOVED Hive, and reading is luxury reserved for holidays.

My Kindle is crammed with  books written by entrepreneurial women from around the globe (and the odd psychological thriller) and with many of you asking for recommendations, I thought now was as good a time as any to share my favourite business books for female entrepreneurs.

BEST FOR… START UPS

Build a Business from Your Kitchen Table by Sophie Cornish & Holly Tucker

This book was gifted to me at an event right at the beginning of my BLOVED journey, and became my start-up bible. Not only does it tell the very honest story of the beginnings of the Not on the High Street empire, but is full of practical exercises you can work through to help in the very early stages of business. Sophie & Holly’s second book, Shape Up Your Business, is a great next-step too.

BEST FOR… FEMALE EMPOWERMENT

Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

Another book I read early on, and actually on my re-reading list, this book is a real feminist manifesto from a woman who has been through personal battles and come out the other side stronger and empowered. Although a lot of the book is corporate-focused, it’s a great one for mums struggling to find the work-life  balance, plus there’s lots of great practical advice that can be applied to business at any level.

BEST FOR… FASHIONISTA ENTREPRENUERS

In My Shoes by Tamara Mellon

If you’re looking for a business book that’s as un-put-downable as your summer chick-lit, this is your book. Tamara Mellon’s autobiography covers everything from relationships and family feuds in the story of one of Britain’s most successful self-made businesswomen – and of course, the shoes!

BEST FOR… STRAIGHT TALKING INSPIRATION

#Girlboss by Sophia Amoruso

A must read for any girlboss, this is more than just a book; it’s a movement. This is one that will certainly resonate with the creative entrepreneur in all of us; Sophia Amoruso does it her way. The book is filled with inspiring content and real-life examples, I still refer back to this one years later.

BEST FOR… SOCIAL MEDIA TIPS

How to be an Overnight Success by Maria Hatzistefanis

As any millennial business-person knows, the key to building a successful brand is a stellar social media presence.  She captured the hearts and minds of beauty-conscious women and teens with her premium skincare brands by bringing the person behind the brand to the forefront, in a bold move that was the key to her success.

BEST FOR… A CONFIDENCE BOOST

Playing Big by Tara Mohr

If you suffer from imposer syndrome or lack of confidence this is the book for you. Tara helps you see beyond others’ success and start to understand how  to see your own talent and potential, to stop apologising, and start making things happen.

BEST FOR… KICKSTARTING YOUR BUSINESS

This ‘self-help’ book for entrepreneurs is written with passion and crammed with inspiration.  Filled with worksheets to get you to really think about your business and start taking action, it will help you to think beyond the expected and start challenging what’s possible to create your own dream business

BEST FOR… FINDING YOUR PURPOSE

Make It Happen by Lara Casey

Written specifically for female entrepreneurs in creative industries, this book is about helping you to see beyond your fears and start creating the life you deserve. If you’re into practical advice and exercises this one’s not for you, rather it’s one big heart-to-heart with author Lara Casey, editor of Southern Weddings Magazine, encouraging you to think hard and dig deep to discover what it is you really want.

BEST FOR… BEAUTIFUL BRANDING

How to Style Your Brand by Fiona Humberstone

This book is SO much more than a practical guide to good design. Fiona helps you to understand the psychology and reasoning behind a good brand, helping you to find your vision and ideal client before working out what appeals to them whilst remaining true to yourself. Whether you’re a start-up or experienced entrepreneur, everyone can learn something from this beautifully presented book.

BEST FOR… HANDBAG-SIZED TIPS
