February. Yup, it’s here already and I swear each month and year go quicker than the last!

After kicking off the year thinking about our dreams and plans for 2017, now’s the time to start putting them into action.  The first step to achieving any of your dreams is to start booking clients.  Sounds easy right? But I know that many of you struggle with marketing yourself, connecting with clients and being able to sell confidently. So this month at the Hive we’re going to focus on branding and marketing yourself and your business so that you can not just connect with clients, but connect with the right ones.

It’s impossible to brand your business or market yourself without knowing who your target audience is! This is one of my favourite parts of creating a business and brand – when you get to dream about the amazing clients you’re going to work with this year.

Who is she? Where does she live / work / go on holiday? What does she wear / eat / drive? What does her home look like? How does she relax? The more in depth you can go the better – use words or images to create a profile, whichever you find easier.  Now you have a ‘person’ to tailor your offering and brand to!

If there’s one thing we know it’s that millenials (aka the brides we all want to target) are aaaall over social media – and they’re using it differently to ever before.  That means today’s brides are not just following their friends, family and a few fave bloggers but searching for inspiration, advice, ideas and suppliers on social media so making sure your content is relevant and visible is key.  Three tips here folks – a consistent message, consistent schedule and consistent aesthetic.

Being your own PR is hard, no one likes to shout about themselves!  But if you want to get your brand out there it’s time to shake off the fear and start making connections with the press and influencers who align with your brand.  Start by reaching out to just one key contact, telling them why you’re awesome and how working with you could benefit you both.

Now is the perfect time of year to work on collaborative projects and shoots that will not just help you get your work out there, but to make valuable connections within the industry too.  Be selective about who you’re working with and pick brands who have a similar target audience to yours to make sure your efforts are targeted in the right places.

No, I don’t mean actual cheating, stealing or pinching clients!  One of the biggest reasons enquiries fail to convert is that you just weren’t the first person to reply. Sucks right?  When you’re drowning in emails or life is just getting in the way of you tackling your inbox it can be hard to reply to enquiries quickly.  Save a bunch of standard replies to your desktop which can be quickly tailored to individual requests to save you a heap of time. And make sure you’re not being pipped to the post by your competitors!
