Please can tell us a bit about yourselVES and your business?
We are the industry body for wedding planners in the UK. In an otherwise unregulated market, we offer training and membership for new and experienced planners, as well as great suppliers who like to work with professional planners. Our code of business practice and strict entry criteria mean we offer UK couples professional support whether they marry in the UK or abroad.
What was it that attracted you to work in the wedding industry?
Do we love the industry of love, yes of course we do. But it wasn’t just that, it was more about bringing professionalism, and super professionals, to a market which matters so much – for most couples it’s the first time they’ve planned something so big and expensive and we want to ensure they get the best support and guidance and that they can enjoy it.
What are you going to be talking about?
Pricing. We have spent years doing this job ourselves, in our individual wedding planning businesses, but also training 100s of students. It’s really important to ensure, ideally from the outset, that you aim to make a proper living out of the work.
What is about pricing that you think most wedding pros struggle with? Undoubtedly many struggle with the fact that they love what they do, therefore don’t perhaps feel they should charge for what they love. I don’t now how many times we’ve said this, but there is nothing wrong with getting well paid for doing something you love. For those of us with children, it’s what we most desire for them, so why not us?
What are you most looking forward to at HiveLive17?
The people! We are huge collaborators and we believe that yes, we can impart some useful knowledge and insights, but have no doubt by having a group of like minded professionals in the room, we will all learn from one another.
