There’s something  magical about the beginning of a New Year.

After the opulence and indulgence of Christmas, I love to wrap up warm and go for a walk in the woods where I grew up.  The crisp frosts, clear blue skies and bare branches are sure to blow away the cobwebs and feel the weight of the past 12 months lift away.  Nature has provided a blank canvas on which to build new ideas and dreams for the year ahead.  And in business it’s no different; the start of a new year gives us a brief moment where the to-do list is still a blank page, and anything is possible.

So this month my mission is to help you to get fired up about your business again – to get inspired, be creative and start the 2017 with restored energy, passion and creating your own new year business goals. Entering our first full year in business, and with our membership programme now officially launched, it seems like the perfect time to introduce you to our first monthly feature; the Hive Five, where each month I’ll be sharing five things you can do to help you and your business thrive this year.

This month, try these five things to help you dream big for 2017!

1

GO FOR A WALK

When your mind is whirling with to-do lists taking some time out in the fresh air with no distractions (like washing up or admin!) is the perfect way to clear your mind and create space for new dreams and inspiration.  Leave your phone at home, and go out alone or with friends and family, I promise the time out however short will refresh and get your brain thinking in new ways by the time you get back.

2

READ A BOOK

I love reading books by #girlbosses and business owners I admire and always finish feeling inspired and ready to tackle new challenges.  Before things get busy, put some time aside to read a book that will inspire some new business goals and dreams.  My favourites include Michael Garber’s The E-Myth, Sophia Amaruso’s #Girlboss, Danielle LaPorte’s The Fire Starter Sessions, and Tara Mohr’s Playing Big.

3

GO FOR LUNCH

Whenever I go out for lunch or coffee with a friend in the industry I come home filled with new ideas and inspiration!  Sometimes simply talking things through with someone who ‘gets it’ is enough to help you to think creatively, bouncing ideas off each other and coming up with new solutions – whether it’s something small like a tip for organising your emails to a whole new business concept!

4

CREATE A VISION BOARD

A vision board is a great way to help you focus on the things you want to achieve ,reminding you of the life you want to lead every time you see it. It can be as simple or complex as you like, with imagery, inspiration and pretty. Just make sure you place it somewhere you will see it often (like above your desk or even on the fridge door!) to help you focus on the things you want to achieve.

I’ll be sharing my tips for creating a vision board here next week.

5

SHARE YOUR DREAMS

By sharing your dreams with others, you attract the people who are inspired or share your dream.  Your tribe are your biggest supporters, your cheerleaders, they’ll shout about you to anyone who’ll listen (and they’ll be the first to tell you when something is a little off).

Sharing also makes it real – if other people are in on your dream you’ll work harder to make it happen, so share your biggest dream for 2017 with us on Instagram using the hashtag #hivebigdreams and we’ll help you make it happen in 2017!
